This week I found out about Andy Warhole. Him what done "pop art". It weren't pictures of Spandex Ballet or Kajaganoonoo or nuffink. It were mainly cans of soup.
Andy was an only child who liked to do train spotting and stamp collecting and all sorts of exciting stuff like that.
One day he asked his mum if he could start collecting soup cans. Andy's mum thought his hobbies were stupid - this was the last straw! She threw out all his stuff. His train set, stamp collection and Smurfs were all built into a great big bonfire.
Andy cried a lot. He was a bit of a girly boy.
Anyway - cos he wasn't allowed to collect soup cans he started to draw pictures of them. Lots of pictures. All different sizes.
Chicken soup was his favourite. He sold his first picture on a car boot sale back in 1963, for half a crown, to a pretty young thing called Mary-Lynn Munrow. Mary-Lynn later became Andy's bird - he started painting her on the front of the soup cans instead of chicken. It was a bit odd but folks back then liked it.
Andy sadly died a few years back - but his work can still be seen all over the shop. Nobody ever knew what happened to Mary-Lynn. She just vanished like a candle in the wind.
I quite like Andy Warhole's stuff. I've got his mulligatawny one on me quilt cover. It's proper smart.
Next week....I might do somefink a bit different....we'll see.
